WHY ANNADAAN

Feeding Humanity is the Highest Form of Dharma

Annadaan, the sacred act of offering food, is regarded in Sanatan Dharma as the highest form of charity because food itself is considered divine.

Sacred Vedic Annadaan

“अन्नदानं परं दानम्”

“अन्नदानं परं दानम्””: There is no greater donation than feeding the hungry. Our scriptures describe food as “Annam Brahma”, Food is God. Feeding the needy is not just charity, but a sacred seva that brings peace, prosperity, positive karma and divine blessings. At Krishnayan, Annadaan is a continuous seva dedicated to saints, poor families, devotees, pilgrims, children and needy individuals. On the sacred land of Haridwar, every meal served becomes an offering of compassion, dignity and humanity rooted in Sanatan values.

Compassion In Suffering

Hunger is one of the greatest sufferings of human life. Every day, countless poor families, children, saints, devotees, homeless individuals and struggling laborers sleep without proper food. Many saints and tapasvis walking the spiritual path in Haridwar, Rishikesh and the Himalayan regions survive with very limited support, while underprivileged families battle poverty, disasters, illness and helplessness in silence. At Krishnayan, we believe that no soul should remain hungry, which is why Annadaan is not treated as an occasional charity but as a continuous sacred seva rooted in Sanatan Dharma, compassion and humanity.

Daily Sacred Initiative

At Krishnayan, fresh, sattvic and hygienically prepared meals are served daily with dignity and care. Our Annadaan initiatives support saints, sadhus, Brahmins, needy children, poor families, disabled individuals, leprosy-affected communities and pilgrims visiting the sacred land of Maa Ganga. During festivals, natural calamities, earthquakes, floods, harsh winters, or emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic, Krishnayan organizes large-scale Bhandaras, ration distribution drives and food relief programs to ensure that no one suffers from hunger during difficult times.

"On the sacred banks of Maa Ganga in Haridwar, every meal served through Krishnayan becomes more than food it becomes an offering of compassion, dignity, hope and devotion towards humanity and Dharma."
