Bhadrapada Purnima 2025

Bhadrapada Purnima holds great significance in Sanatan Dharma. On this sacred day, devotees worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, perform Pitra Tarpan, and offer Pind Daan for the peace of their ancestors’ souls. This full moon also marks the transition to the month of Ashwin, with the following fortnight observed as Pitru Paksha. According to Hindu beliefs, offering Tarpan on this day relieves one from various life obstacles and brings ancestral blessings. On Bhadrapada Purnima, large numbers of devotees take holy dips in sacred rivers like the Ganga and then offer prayers to Lord Vishnu, seeking prosperity and peace. In 2025, Bhadrapada Purnima will be observed on Sunday, 7th September 2025, and the moon will rise at 6:26 PM.

Importance of Bhadrapada Purnima
This day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Fasting, donating to the poor, and offering prayers on this day are believed to bring mental peace, the removal of sins, and abundance in life. Bhadrapada Purnima also marks the beginning of Pitru Paksha, making it especially significant for honoring ancestors. Bathing in holy rivers and making offerings are said to cleanse sins and grant immense spiritual merit.

Important Rituals to Perform
Devotees wake up before sunrise, take a holy bath, and prepare for the rituals. An altar is set up in the northeast corner with a yellow cloth, where the idols or images of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi are placed and purified with sacred water. Offerings of flowers, fruits, sandal paste, incense, sweets, and Panchamrit are made during the worship. The Satyanarayan Katha is recited with devotion, followed by the aarti. Prasad is distributed among family members and neighbors, symbolizing the sharing of blessings.

Benefits of Bhadrapada Purnima
Worshipping Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this day is believed to enhance happiness, prosperity, and good fortune while removing obstacles and hardships from life. The full moon on this night is also linked with the blessings of Chandra Devta. Offering milk and water to the moon during the evening rituals helps in removing Chandra Dosh from the horoscope and alleviating mental stress. It is also said that when a husband and wife together offer Arghya to the moon on this night, it brings harmony, sweetness, and happiness to their married life.
